The Tall Ships Races are an international annual event in which tall ships from all over the world rally and provide thousands of youths the opportunity to experience life at sea, while participating in a friendly competition. In 2007, Barcelona had the opportunity to act as a host city, thanks to support provided by the City Council of Barcelona and the Port Authority of Barcelona, with technical co-ordination by Consorci El Far.
Tall ships are sailing vessels, usually of a large size, with traditional rigs. Among them, there are naval and merchant navy training ships, or private and public associations, such as city councils, autonomous regions or universities. Consorci El Far participates in traditional style with the schooner Far Barcelona.
